WHO'S REALLY TO BLAME?

Got an email today from Terry Funderburk, the South Carolinian construction worker whose business is going down the tubes because he can't compete with those who hire illegals. It reminded me that we have the government we deserve.

Thomas Jefferson said on many, many occasions that an informed citizenry is indispensable for the proper functioning of a republic. He knew something that we have evidently forgotten or chosen to ignore, and it's this:

Self-government isn’t possible unless we, you and me -- the citizens -- are sufficiently educated and aware so we can exercise oversight. Jefferson said it is imperative we be suitably educated -- aware and alert to the legislative process and what our elected representatives are doing. It is our responsibility. And it's not optional.

Well, herein lies the problem. See, we’ve been asleep at the switch for decades, ignoring what’s been going on in our schools, our courts, our halls of congress, allowing those with a lust for power to remake our republic into what it is today -- a socialist "utopia". Lately, more and more of us are discovering we don't like it. Some of us, like Terry Funderburk, are looking around asking "What the hell has happened to my country?"

We have forgotten that we are supposed to bind men down by the chains of the Constitution. Hell, we can't even protect our homeland.

Woe, woe, woe to us.

Now, it’s awfully tempting to blame “the government”. Many do. But where were we when all this was evolving into the mess we have today???

Why, shopping… of course.

***

"But I'm busy! I don't have time! Throw the bums out! Secede from the union! "

Sorry. Not acceptable. You failed Jefferson's Good Citizen test.

Yeah, we're busy putting a roof over our heads, food on the table, gas in the car, paying the health, life and homeowner insurance premiums, forking it over to the IRS gestapo before we even put it in our pocket, making ends meet, and on and on...

We're so overextended on our credit cards and house payments we can't breathe, much less look up long enough to pay attention to what our elected reps in Congress and state capitols are doing.

So here we are. Frustrated. Angry. Depressed. Divided as a nation between those who think government is The Answer and those who understand the danger in that thinking.

Terry Funderburk -- the "everyman" who represents each of us -- has taken a stand. He told us about it on my radio program last night. He's taken to writing about it. He's found a good man to represent him in court, and he's ready to take it all the way to the top if he has to. He says,

"Just imagine a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Imagine a justice system that favors no one and treats everyone the same. Imagine a legal system that enforces all the laws fairly. Boy, that sure sounds like a place I know that was called America.

But wait, this is America. But, if this is America, then what in the hell is going on? If this is America why aren't our laws being enforced? If this is America why are certain classes of people being treated different than others?"

Thomas Jefferson knew the answer to those questions. He predicted it.

"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. And to render even them safe, their minds must be improved to a certain degree."

Back to Terry Funderburk:

"In my last article I mentioned the Statue of Liberty sitting in New York Harbor. What I didn't mention is that she now has tears in her eyes. Tears for the way her leaders are tearing away the foundations of this great country. Tears for the way that most of her citizens are treated as second class. Tears for the way that her justice system is being manipulated by some for the benefit of a few. Tears for the way that her citizens are just allowing these things to happen."

Thomas Jefferson told us nearly 200 years ago that "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."

Terry Funderburk:

"It is time to get angry, fellow Americans, it is time to get out of your homes and start setting things right again. It is past the time to vote out of all the bums who are profaning this great nation and to set her right again. It is time to take back our country."

Hey, Jefferson would have agreed. "No nation is permitted to live in ignorance with impunity," he warned us.

Here's what you need to do. NOW. Start learning the history of our great nation. Of other ages and nations. Make sure your kids are learning it. Check their history books. If they don't contain enough information about what made this nation great, if they're not learning the principles that this nation was founded upon, TEACH THEM! It's your responsibility as a citizen and a parent of future citizens. Prepare yourself and them. It is critical to understand where we're headed and what needs to be done about it. And we can only know that for certain by learning what history teaches us. Ignorance is NOT bliss. It's dangerous.

At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in the year 1787 Alexander Tytler, a Scottish history professor had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A Democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can exist only until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been about 200 years. These nations always progressed through this sequence:

from BONDAGE to SPIRITUAL FAITH; from spiritual faith to GREAT COURAGE; from courage to LIBERTY; from liberty to ABUNDANCE; from abundance to SELFISHNESS; from selfishness to COMPLACENCY; from complacency to APATHY; from apathy to DEPENDENCY; from dependency back into BONDAGE."

It's time for you to become informed. And involved. Our country's viability depends on you. GET BUSY!!!

Your question, "Who's Really to Blame?" is a good one.
But unless I read your words incorrectly, you put the blame in the wrong arena. I would argue that those pulling the lever for conservatives when they vote are probably much better "Civics students" than are those voting for Liberals/Progressives. Anyone who has ever watched the "Jaywalking" segment on Jay Leno has laughed, (behind tears in my case), at idiots who cannot even identify who the Vice President, or their OWN SENATOR is!
And we all know how California consistently votes, don't we?

Andrea, what scares me most is that when they are confronted with the truth these people will not see it. In fact, they tend to further lie or obfuscate to try to muddy the issue in order to avoid the embarrassment of looking ill-informed.
If you aren't up-to-date on the "Thomas Scott Beauchamp" issue with "The National Review", go now and educate yourself. These Socialists are willing to do anything...
ANYTHING possible to make George Bush and those of us willing to "stand and defend" this country look like impulsive warmongers. And the only reason they are not getting away with it as they did in Viet Nam is the internet, and the intense scrutiny of folks like yourself. God Bless Weblogs!

I hope the situation is not irretrievable. On my site, I have jokingly talked about secession. I have to admit to often thinking I do not want to be put into the position of once again having to risk my life to defend the lives of the Ted Kennedy's and "JFK Lites" of the world...
thinking, "let them boil in the stew they have made", by starting a new Union with like-minded conservatives. Problem with that is, the riff-raff from the leftover Socialist State would soon be starving and would be raiding the food pantries of whatever country we try to establish.
What a mess!

So how do we resolve the problem?
We need a leader that can say, in a way that everyone understands and believes, "If ya want to keep gettin' what you're gettin', keep doin' what you're doin'!"
It's gonna be painful. Liberals won't like it at all. Some have now become so accustomed to "the entitlement society" they won't be able to make the change. (And therein lies the really scary scenario, and the true possibility of another Civil War.)

We Must... MUST get the country back on track! And to do that, we are gonna need another Ronald Reagan or John Kennedy... a communicator who can string words together and really help us see, and maybe make us cry.
At this point in our election cycle, I don't yet see such a leader.
Lord, be with us and guide us!

As a laborer in the construction industry with a company that refuses to hire illegals let me first say that though the industry is filled with workers that jump the border, I am proof that there are Americans willing to do the work. Fact is, many businesses have come to depend upon paying the lower wages to illegals - putting legitimate businesses out of business because they are able to lowball them when it comes to bidding for jobs. In the end, Americans are essentially punished for it. And trust me, I work around these people, and though the Left will claim this is a lie, I hear daily comments such as "we are breeding you white people out" and "this land belongs to Mexico." The most chilling was when I was told "better learn Spanish because it won't be long before it is the national language." What bothers me most is that there are people out there claiming that we need to reform our immigration laws. Why? The laws are fine, they just need to be enforced. And I don't care if the illegal is from England, illegal immigration is wrong, and not good for America.

It is just awful that now Terry has said horrible things about this home owner (the home he was arrested in front of). Terry you are way off base! I know for a fact that the owner of this home that Terry has bad mouth is a honest and very respectable person. Terry was the lowest bidder for this project and the home owner chose a higher bidder. My opinion it probably was a good thing he did not hire this psychotic person. Terry you should do more research before you start dragging a great person through the mud. He is a very dedicated father to his disabled son who has been disabled since birth. This family has been through more than most families will ever have to endure. And have continued to do everything they can to care for their son. It seems like Terry, maybe you should take a step back look at yourself. You want to complain about not being able to pay your bills, you should put yourself in this families shoes. Now lets talk who has things tuff! You should be using this family as a role model citizens instead of someone who has done something wrong. Like I said Terry you are so out of line. Are you even a licensed roofer? Now who is doing things illegal? I feel you should publicly apologize to this family, for this is one more thing that you have put them through. As if they have not already gone through enough. I understand fighting for things you believe in but you should have all your facts together. Because when you get on a very population channel like CNN and say things about and you are so wrong it is nothing more than a reflection on your that you are an idiot!
Here is a tip for you Terry, do better work for the people who do hire you to do work on their homes and maybe you would be able to pay your bills on not blame, Illegal Immigrants and innocent homeowners!

Hopefully, you and CNN learn something from what you have done.

Shame on you CNN & Terry Funderburk!

I appreciate everything I read on the Patriot. I agree with a lot of it. I'm putting this up at a couple spots because this is a problem we can control:
There is, however, another undercutting to our society that requires our attention. Hispanics misbehaving, abusing and even creating terror in the lives of our citizens are facts of life in America. So are other illegals who leach off the system. They aren't talked about. Because most of them are white and fool even the spouses they seemingly marry with good intentions, they go unnoticed.
Case in point: Claudio Melega. This is an Italian American who's lived here for more than 12 years. Ten of those years were illegal. He now lives in Felton, CA. I came to know about this guy through a girl that, for reasons enough said, we kept an eye on for civil reasons. As it turns out, the girl is American. She wasn't doing anything wrong, except keeping secrets for scuz like this Melega. He was an acquaintance of hers, nothing more. He worked at a restaurant, La Brusquetta, that we know faithfully employs illegals. It's raided often.
Melega married a woman he called, "a nigger dyke." She's got two kids and he agreed to pay off her health insurance, that kind of thing. The couple never lived together. They swam right through INS, as they all do. After six months, Melega divorced her.
I'm sick of Americans allowing themselves to become so impoverished, that they roll over and are taken in by their illegal "friends."
Melega it turns out, did more than just procure false naturalization...in this country all that time and again the INS says with a smile, 'go ahead, illegal, now that you're married, it's ok. Here's a CA driver's license.'
Melega thinks just like the Hispanics. "Americans should learn to drop their mongoloid (disabled) kids off cliffs. That's the real problem with this country, and the blacks...911 wasn't an accident. Everyone knows America deserved it because it doesn't let the right people immigrate to this country." This, from a guy who claims a wealthy background, uses drugs and divorced not just one woman, but the next, each after six months. He couldn't even commit to an actual marriage, and INS said, "no problem. You filled your six month naturalization rehearsal.
Just as bad, he also pointed his finger at this innocent girl in the area. Of course she's got her own ethnicity battles, but she's proud to be American. Sad thing is, the men in the area smelled her vulnerability, and the civil eye on her boiled over.
I know the girl tried to turn in Melega. But she did this after he got his Green Card. What INS official takes away a European's Green Card? There's a Homeland Security site to go to, or a number to call. She did that. But to what avail? She tried to do the right thing in God's eyes, and make up her mistake of keeping quiet to America. No one listens. Now he's here for good. I repeat, his ideas about 911 are chilling.
Her life is a wreck now. Hispanics have taken over the civil eye on her. That's regrettable. But this girl's also an idiot. She married a guy from Europe. Turns out after several years he not only used her resources. He got in good with some good 'ole boys, and now he wants to take her house from her. He just ran shot over her, used up her money, has his friends continuously sabotage her life, and guess what? We all know the story: She can only report financial loss.
God forgives us for our mistakes. This girl has to leave her country, America, because of what these foreigners did to her life.
More could be said about both men. More should not be said about any illegals. They use this country and feel they have a right to their place in the 'melting pot.' Now innocent Americans pay the price and have to leave. You can argue that I'm just talking about one American girl who can't prove anything and has to tuck tail, and we don't need her anyway. But in a free country, those with the right to live here and who fight harder than most to maintain any kind of dignity or way of life, deserve better than having to leave. We lose more and more fine Americans to these foreigners. And these illegals are hard to spot. They're slick. If they're not slick, they point the finger at brown skin and slip beyond the radar.

First of all i want to apologize for may very bad english. I hope you folks will try to understand me anyway. I'm from Italy and eventually I'm a good friend of the guy that jackseyes exposed so unfine in his comment.
I think the case deserve more insight than jackseyes gave.
What Melega done so bad to your country? He paid taxes, and he's doing right now, like you all, I think. He's adding richness to you country with his work, yes maybe very little indeed, but he's doing the best he can, he's paying wealth insurance to his ex wifes, and I don't think that for U.S. standarts to be married two times is a horrible thing.
The problem with jackseyes is that he heard only a side of the story, so he think that can permit him to spitting on a man that live honestly his life in the USA.
Maybe jackseyes think he can lives easy with a girl like last Melega Wife, a girl that is getting broke for every kind of addiction most every day. My best wishes to him! What's the truth? The truth is that sometime is difficult live with someone and I dont think that is really strange that a wedding last only few month with this kind of person, not in USA anyway.
But what make me really sad is that a person that use a pseudonymous like to expose so unfine and unjust a perfect honest man.
