NOT GOOD

On last night's program at WDBO, I talked about the upcoming "peace" summit set to begin Tuesday in Annapolis, MD.

I told my listeners that I don't have a good feeling about this reluctant gathering of Arab heads of state who are entangled in the malignant snare of the Israeli-Palestinian conundrum.

This effort to bring all parties together by our President and Secretary of State is contrived and ill advised. It is dangerously stacked against Israel, the beleaguered nation again being asked to give up a pound or two of flesh to placate the Palestinians and the rest of the world.

I wondered aloud what Naomi Ragen might say about all of this. I found out this morning when I opened my email. I share it with you:

A few days ago, I awoke at midnight with the distinct impression that my bed was shaking. It was not my imagination. Jerusalem has had it's second earthquake in a matter of a few weeks.

The third begins today, in Annapolis, as members of the Arab League, the PLO, in the form of Arafat's right hand man, Holocaust -denier and financier of Hamas terrorists (until they turned on him) Abu Mazen, join together to pressure Israel to self-destruct. On the agenda, as those on my list know from a former correspondence entitled: The Jewish Tsunami, is the fate of Jerusalem.

Under the auspices of One Jerusalem, an organization formed during the Intifada to protect us from the excesses of delusional Israeli politicians bartering away our capital, we met at the Tayelet, which overlooks the entire city. There I sat, Natan Sharansky (my idol) on one side, and former Chief of Staff Moshe Ayalon on the other, with Knesset Member Effie Eitam, and Jerusalem's vice-Mayor Nir Barakat, on the other.

We were joined by Congressman Eric Cantor, a Republican from Virginia, whose warm words of support gave us comfort on the cold, windy night when the fate of our holy city hangs in the balance.

More powerful than any words, were the visuals: a brilliantly conceived laser light show that demonstrated how close, and how fast, the rockets will travel to our Kotel, our Knesset, and the Christian holy sites, from the Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem should they be taken over by terrorists. And yet, these neighborhoods are now on the auction block, to be paid for with still more "Peace promises."

We all know what happened when we tried to cash in on these promies during Oslo, and after our withdrawal from Gush Katif. Our lives became a living nightmare, with bombs falling everywhere. Having learned absolutely nothing, our politicians are now eager to barter Jerusalem for the same worthless currency. As if her streets have not bled enough.

***

Jews have always lived in Jerusalem. Before the birth of Mohammed, there were Jews in Jerusalem and a holy temple built by King Solomon. Before the birth of Jesus, there were Jews in Jerusalem.

Everywhere else Jews have lived, no matter how long, we have been told: "this is not your place. You have no right to practice your religion here. You have no right to live here." We lived in Spain for over a thousand years, and yet within a month, we were told to leave. We lived in Poland and Germany for hundreds of years and yet we were told, only sixty years ago: "You have no right to practice your religion here. You have no right to live here. You have no right to live."

And so we returned to our homeland, the place that every person on earth knows was the birthplace of the Jewish people. We returned to our capital, Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is not a piece of land. It is our history, our heritage, our religion, our deepest held longing and our most everlasting hope for the future of our people.

To deny our sovereignty over all of Jerusalem, is to betray the hopes and the rights of thousands of generations of Jews for whom"next year in Jerusalem" gave them the strength to survive and to hand down their heritage to the next generation.

It is to betray thousands of years of prayers and supplications to G-d to give us back our Holy City.

It is to betray the soldiers who fought and died for her, the children who were born in her, the immigrants who flocked to her from all over the world. It is to betray every Jew in the Diaspora, who turn their face towards her each day in hope and prayer.

Our generation, for reasons we cannot know, has been given the remarkable privilege of having Jerusalem once again return to its rightful owners, the Jewish people. Unlike those who ruled it before us, we never destroyed any place holy to any other religion. We never denied any pilgrim or worshipper access to their mosques and churches. We never used the gravestones from cemeteries to pave our roads, or used our bulldozers to destroy priceless antiquities.

To betray our bond to Jerusalem, is to betray our bond to G-d, Who has chosen this place as His eternal dwelling place on earth.

We will not betray our God, or our history or our city.

"Our feet stood within your gates, Jerusalem. Jerusalem that is whole, built around a holy center....Inquire after the peace of Jerusalem, those who love you view the future unafraid" (Psalm 122)

Keep updated on the struggle to keep our beloved Jerusalem safe.

Every blessing,
Naomi
