A woman was arrested after a car chase reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour, stretching from San Bernardino to Los Angeles on Tuesday. Police are still searching for a man involved in the incident.
The high-speed pursuit began on Tuesday at around noon in the city of Chino and ended up in South Los Angeles, reported the Los Angeles Times.
The vehicle nearly hit several pedestrians, including children walking on a crosswalk, according to Fox Los Angeles. As the car was slowing down, the woman pulled her child away. The Times reported the vehicle also nearly hit a boy on a skateboard.
The chase stretched across the labyrinthine maze of freeways of Southern California, reaching speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. There were some reports the car reached 130 miles per hour.
While on normal streets, the car drove at speeds between 60 and 75 miles per hour, reported the Times.
However, the male driver of the silver sedan, identified by the Times as a Lexus ES400, got out after stopping at around 12:50 a.m., according to Fox. While one a cellular phone, he ran off into a nearby neighborhood.
The female passenger then got into the driver’s seat and sped off before hitting a bus and another vehicle. She then got out and ran off—also while on a cellular phone—but was arrested moments later after running to an apartment complex, according to the Times.
California Highway Patrol Officer Ed Jacobs told the station that the chase began after a burglary in San Bernardino County.
