Megyn Kelly Fox News, Megyn Kelly and Greta Van Susteren reportedly re-upped their contracts with Fox News. The move has fueled speculation about the possibility of Kelly moving into a primetime role, if Van Susteren were to leave the 10:00 p.m. hour she's hosted for about a decade. The New York Times was first to report the news (see update below).
Reports surfaced earlier this year that Kelly took meetings with other networks, including CNN and ABC, to discuss potential opportunities. Kelly, who anchors the 1-3:00 p.m. hours on Fox News, was coming off a big year. She co-hosted much of Fox News' 2012 presidential coverage alongside Bret Baier. She served as one of the moderators during a Fox News-sponsored Republican primary debate in November 2011. The animated host also navigated the now infamous election night moment in which Karl Rove disputed the network's announcement that President Obama beat Mitt Romney.
Her afternoon program "America Live" is one of the top rated news programs in cable news. She announced that she was pregnant with her third child earlier this year.
UPDATE: 4:15 p.m. -- The Times' Brian Stelter updated his initial report on Kelly resigning her contract with news of Greta Van Susteren's contract renewal. Though terms of the deal are unclear, it's possible that Van Susteren might move out of her 10:00 p.m. time slot. The move would open up a primetime position for Kelly, who many consider to be Fox News' rising star. Van Susteren's husband suggested to the Times that "she would happily move to an earlier hour, perhaps sometime later this year."
While Van Susteren's primetime show is one of the most highly rated programs on cable news, ratings for "On The Record" plunged to record lows in the coveted A25-54 demographic in March. In January, Fox News reported its lowest primetime ratings since August 2001, and its lowest total day ratings since June 2008.
