Juneteenth shooting, Columbus police are seeking any video that may have been taken of a shooting at a weekend Juneteenth Festival that injured an 11-year-old boy.
Officers are asking the public to take a look at any cellphone or other video captured at the Saturday night event to see if it could be used as evidence in the case.
The shooting happened at a park just outside downtown Columbus at the Juneteenth Festival. The boy was hit in the leg by a stray gunshot and hospitalized with injuries that weren't life-threatening. A 15-year-old boy was arrested.
The shooting ended the annual festival, which celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S.
"June 19th, 1865, is considered the date when the last slaves in America were freed. Although the rumors of freedom were widespread before this, actual emancipation did not come until General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas and issued General Order No. 3, on June 19th, almost two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation," according to the Ohio Juneteenth Festival website.
"Juneteenth has come to symbolize for many African-Americans what the fourth of July symbolizes for all Americans -- Freedom. It serves as a historical milestone reminding Americans of the triumph of the human spirit over the cruelty of slavery. It honors those African-American ancestors who survived the inhumane institution of bondage, as well as demonstrating pride in the marvelous legacy of resistance and perseverance they left us."
The Juneteenth festival is celebrated in some 200 cities around the US.
Police say four other young people had been involved in fighting in Columbus and were arrested before the shooting.
