Robin the Boy Wonder killed is one news headline that has quite a few DC Comics fans shocked this week, as the NY Post reported this Monday, Feb. 25, that Batman’s sidekick Robin is going to be killed in a brutal fight against an enemy in an upcoming comic book to be published this Wednesday.
The surprising death of Robin — the classic Boy Wonder and eternal sidekick of the infamous Dark Knight — is set to appear in issue No. 8 of the new Batman comic title called, “Batman Incorporated.” However, the report also notes that the effects of Robin’s death will lead to some major changes in the DC Comics universe, hinted the publisher to The Post.
“He saves the world. He does his job as Robin,” confirmed Grant Morrison on the Robin the Boy Wonder killed trend. “He really dies [as] an absolute hero.”
Robin (whose real name is Damian Wayne, the son of the infamous Bruce Wayne) will die fighting a terrible assassin that ironically happens to be his comic book “brother,” an enemy that has been cloned from his own genetic makeup.
For the spoiler, added the writer, Batman will once again come in at the nick of time to save his sidekick Robin, but this time will fail. It is said to bring a very adult message to the DC Comics universe, particularly for parents.
Robin’s death, Morrison added, will show how parents can lose sight of their children when they fight.
“It’s all about the family, and the family is going to hell,” said the writer, who threw in pieces of his own parents’ divorce. “The two adults in the story are both culpable. The kid’s the good guy.”
