The 17-year-old from Angola had boarded the Kennedy-bound flight from Johannesburg and went into labour somewhere over West Africa.
The flight was not redirected since two doctors and nurse were on board. Pediatric anesthesiologist Dr Julie Williamson, from California, helped deliver Kaba's baby.
"It was exhilarating," said Williamson, according to The Daily News. "While there was a lot of discussion whether to divert the flight, she made the decision for us by saying, 'Push!'.
And when we checked, the baby was crowning, and she delivered him in two pushes," the 41-year-old Californian doctor — who was returning from a medical conference in SA — added.
The baby boy, who Kaba named Mamel Joella, was declared healthy by the doctors on the flight. "He nursed right away. And she was a very strong woman — never cried, never complained. It was amazing," said Williamson.
Kaba even returned to her seat after the birth."He didn't cry a single peep the whole time," Williamson said.Since Mamel Joella was born outside of US airspace, he won't be an American citizen. Tolong Share ya ^^
